A simple recipe for quality meals, stock management and galley performance

A healthy, motivated and energetic crew is a well-fed crew. Enjoyable and nutritious meals fuel happy and efficient ships. Ensuring a reliable global supply of high-quality provisions on board is quite a challenge. As is managing stocks, controlling victualling cost, monitoring consumption and enhancing catering performance.

Over the past decades, Van Hulle has developed a cost effective victualling system in which we coordinate all provisions supplies worldwide at a fixed rate per crewmember per day. Today, Van Hulle serves more than 10000 meals each day to crews on various types of ocean going vessels trading worldwide, with a permanent focus on quality and efficiency. In European ports, supplies come from our own warehouses, with our own fleet of temperature-controlled trucks. For supplies outside Europe, our global network of selected suppliers guarantees an impeccable execution of all requirements.

Besides coordinating all supplies, Van Hulle assists the Master and Chief Cook in organizing and optimizing the galley performance with regard to practical cookery, recipes, menu planning, health, stock management, food safety & hygiene. Our catering staff regularly visits the vessels to assess the galley operations, to receive feed-back on supplies and actively participate in improving the catering. Our instructors are at your disposal for onshore- and onboard galley trainings.

The catering manual provides lots of useful information, posters, guidelines for the handling & storage of food, fresh produce seasonality charts, global price comparison chart, recipes, as well as a HACCP self-assessment tools and checklists in compliance with the MLC 2006-3.2 legislation. The Master has 1 single contact for all provisions requirements worldwide. He sends his orders and Van Hulle takes care of all the rest.

We closely monitor all aspects of the victualling of your vessels and provide detailed reports on consumption patterns, galley performance, stocks and food safety management.
